ENCOURAGEMENT AND EDUCATIONIN 2016, TRAILNET'S EDUCATION AND ENCOURAGEMENT PROGRAMS TAUGHT 1,286 YOUTH WALKING & BICYCLING SAFETY SKILLS AT IN-CLASSROOM WALK AMBASSADORS TRAININGS, AND AT BICYCLE SAFETY & RIDING EDUCATION IN PE CLASSES. WE HELPED 125 STUDENTS LEARN HOW TO RIDE WITHOUT TRAINING WHEELS, AND DISTRIBUTED 235 NEW HELMETS TO STUDENTS WHO WERE WITHOUT ONE BEFORE OR HAD ONE THAT NO LONGER FIT SAFELY.TRAILNET'S ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS REACHED 109 PEOPLE WHO LEARNED HOW TO FIX A FLAT TIRE, HOW TO RIDE TO WORK, HOW TO LOCK A BIKE UP PROPERLY IN VARYING CONDITIONS, HOW TO ADJUST GEARS AND BRAKES, AND HOW TO KEEP RIDING IN WINTER CONDITIONS. TRAILNET'S WALK & BIKE COUNTS ENGAGED 86 VOLUNTEERS FOR 244 HOURS OF TOTAL COUNTING AT 85 LOCATIONS ACROSS THE REGION, WHERE THEY RECORDED 13,005 PEOPLE WALKING AND BIKING. THIS VALUABLE INFORMATION IS SHARED WITH PARTNERS ACROSS THE REGION TO HELP US BETTER PLAN AND ADVOCATE FOR PEOPLE WALKING AND BIKING.TRAILNET'S CALM STREETS/NEIGHBORHOOD GREENWAYS PROJECT CONTINUED TO CREATE A NETWORK OF STREETS TRANSFORMED TO A HIGH DEGREE OF SAFETY AND COMFORT. THESE CALM STREETS ENCOURAGE WALKING, BIKING, AND SAFE DRIVING BEHAVIORS. LOUISIANA AVE. IN THE DUTCHTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD WAS SELECTED AS THE FIRST PILOT ROUTE FOR THE CITY OF ST LOUIS. THE PROJECT COMMITTEE ADVANCED THE CONCEPT FOR THIS CORRIDOR TO PURSUE FUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION IN 2017.O & A TRAILNET STAFF PARTICIPATED IN REGIONAL PLANNING EFFORTS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO WALKING AND BIKING COMMISSIONS ON COMPLETE STREET POLICIES AND DESIGNS. WE ALSO PROVIDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO 8 COMMUNITIES STATEWIDE WORKING TO CREATE HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES WITH POLICIES AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT STRATEGIESTRAILNET'S 12 WALK & BIKE AMBASSADORS PROGRAM WORKED WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO HELP TRAILNET WORK FOR SAFER STREETS ACROSS THE REGION.TRAILNET HOSTED BIKE-TO-WORK DAY; NEARLY 500 RIDERS VISITED 16 BIKE STATIONS THROUGHOUT THE REGION.
