FOUNDATIONS FOR A BETTER OREGON OPERATES THE CHALKBOARD PROJECT, A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT AMONG SIX INDEPENDENT OREGON FOUNDATIONS - THE COLLINS FOUNDATION, THE FORD FAMILY FOUNDATION, THE JELD-WEN FOUNDATION, THE MEYER MEMORIAL TRUST, THE OREGON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, AND THE JAMES F. AND MARION L. MILLER FOUNDATION - TO UNITE AND HELP OREGONIANS TO MAKE THE STATE'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS AMONG THE BEST IN THE NATION. THE CHALKBOARD PROJECT HAS BEEN ORGANIZED BY OREGONIANS (PARENTS, VOTERS, NEIGHBORS, MOTHERS, GRANDFATHERS) WHO BELIEVE THAT EVERY PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENT DESERVES A QUALITY EDUCATION THAT WILL LEAD TO SUCCESS IN COLLEGE, IN THE WORKPLACE, AND IN LIFE.

SEE SCHEDULE OFOUNDATIONS FOR A BETTER OREGON'S CURRENT PROGRAMMATIC ACTIVITIES ARE DELIVERED UNDER THE NAME "CHALKBOARD PROJECT." THE GOAL OF THE CHALKBOARD PROJECT IS TO IMPROVE OREGON'S K-12 PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND REDUCE DISPARITIES IN ACHIEVEMENT FOR HISTORICALLY UNDERSERVED STUDENT GROUPS. FOR THE PAST DECADE, A KEY STRATEGY HAS BEEN RESEARCH, PILOT PROJECTS AND POLICY ADVOCACY EFFORTS AIMED AT SUPPORTING EDUCATORS (TEACHERS & LEADERS) TO IMPROVE THE CONDITIONS AND EFFECTIVENESS OF TEACHING AND LEARNING. CHALKBOARD PROJECT CONTINUED TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND EDUCATORS THROUGH THE COLLABORATION GRANT AND LEADING FOR LEARNING, TWO STATE-FUNDED PROJECTS. THROUGHOUT 2018, CHALKBOARD PROJECT HAS WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STATE EDUCATION AGENCIES TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MAJORITY PRACTITIONER EDUCATOR ADVANCEMENT COUNCIL (EAC) AND TO ADVOCATE IN THE LEGISLATURE FOR FULL FUNDING FOR ITS WORK. THE EAC IS CHARGED WITH DEVELOPING A STATEWIDE INFRASTRUCTURE AND STRATEGY FOR SUPPORTING OREGON'S CURRENT AND FUTURE EDUCATORS, WHICH WILL ENSURE INNOVATIVE AND EFFECTIVE PRACTICES THAT CHALKBOARD PROJECT HAS PILOTED AND SUPPORTED ARE SCALED STATEWIDE.IN ADDITION, CHALKBOARD PROJECT CONTINUES TO ADVANCE POLICY AND DATA RESEARCH FOCUSED ON REDUCING DISPARITIES EXPERIENCED BY STUDENTS OF COLOR, BLACK AND INDIGENOUS STUDENTS. IN 2018, CHALKBOARD RELEASED THE AFRICAN AMERICAN / BLACK STUDENT SUCCESS REPORT AND ADVOCATED FOR STATEWIDE EQUITY PLANS FOR AMERICAN INDIAN / ALASKA NATIVE AND LATINO STUDENT GROUPS.
