About

Area Residential Care gives people the supervision and assistance they need to learn the skills that will help them achieve their highest quality of life.ICF/ID Licensed HomesThese residential services are provided in three eight-bed homes integrated in neighborhoods within Dubuque. People residing in ICF/ID licensed homes generally are in need of more intense training in basic living skills and/or behavior management than can be provided in other agency living settings. The agency's ICF/ID homes have staff ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 during their most active portion of the day. Continued on Schedule OResidential Community Living HomesThese include 12 community living homes located throughout various neighborhoods in Dubuque and Dyersville, Iowa. Staff in these two to five resident homes provide training and assistance in food prep, laundry, personal care, shopping, budgeting and other skills that lead to more independent living.Apartment LivingThese services are available in Dubuque and Dyersville, Iowa and range from 24-hour site-based services to very independent living where people may only have contact with staff a few hours a month. This residential service is capable of providing a high degree of flexibility to create the unique support each person needs.Vocational Programs*Sheltered Employment for ICF/ID programsSubcontract work is brought into these buildings from local industries, where workers with disabilities perform job tasks under close staff supervision. Staff to individuals served ratios vary from 1:2 to 1:6. Behavioral, social and skill training are a significant part of the services offered in this setting.*Supported/Community Employment EnclavesThese employment opportunities for people with disabilities are offered at many businesses and industries in Dubuque, Dyersville, Manchester and surrounding communities. Workers with disabilities, in groups of four to eighteen, report to the community business and perform work at that site, alongside other employees of the business. One or two staff members of Area Residential Care supervise each enclave during the entire shift. These staff is liaisons with the business owner and the workers with disabilities.*Mobile Work CrewsMobile work crews consist of four to eight workers with disabilities and a staff member/crew foreman. The crew works at a number of businesses each day; moving from one business to the other in a vehicle driven by the crew foreman. Crew members work semi-independently with the assistance of the ever-present crew foreman, building skills toward a more independent job in the future.*Independent Supported EmploymentThese employment opportunities are almost exclusively integrated within the community in a wide variety of work environments. Job coaches are assigned to each worker to provide one-on-one training on each job task. As the worker increases his or her skill level, natural work environment supports are phased in and direct job coaching is phased out.
