EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND DISTRIBUTION THIS YEAR, HEART COMPLETED A NEW PRE-K RESOURCE GUIDE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA IN LOS ANGELES AND SOCIAL COMPASSION CALLED KINDNESS FOR ALL. THE GOALS OF THIS 7-LESSON CURRICULUM ARE TO INCREASE PROSOCIAL BEHAVIORS, COMPASSION, AND EMPATHY, AND TO BUILD UNDERSTANDING OF ANIMALS, RESPONSIBLE ANIMAL CARE, AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION. IT IS CURRENTLY BEING IMPLEMENTED IN HEAD START PROGRAMS IN LOS ANGELES SERVING CHILDREN AGES 3-5 YEARS. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO PROMOTE AND DISSEMINATE OUR THREE OTHER RESOURCE MANUALS: OUR K-5 AND SECONDARY SCHOOL JUSTICE FOR ALL GUIDES, TOTALING 49 LESSONS, AND OUR K-12 HUMANE EDUCATION RESOURCE GUIDE, WITH 40 ANIMAL PROTECTION LESSONS.IN AN ALLIANCE WITH THE PEACE LEARNING CENTER AND TRIBES LEARNING COMMUNITY, WE PUBLISHED AN INNOVATIVE TOOLKIT CALLED EVERYDAY CIRCLES CARDS, A DECK OF 180 5X7 HUMANE EDUCATION/SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) ACTIVITY CARDS FOR TEACHERS TO USE WITH THEIR STUDENTS EVERY DAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. THIS TOOLKIT IS DESIGNED TO FOSTER INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY BUILDING AND PROBLEM SOLVING THAT BECOMES PART OF A DAILY PRACTICE TAKING 20 MINUTES OR LESS. STUDENTS ARE LED THROUGH A PURPOSEFUL PATH BEGINNING WITH INCLUSION, INFLUENCE, AND THEN COMMUNITY ISSUES PERTAINING TO A RANGE OF ANIMAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND SOCIAL JUSTICE TOPICS.WE CONTINUED EXPANDING OUR DIGITAL INITIATIVES THROUGH POPULAR LESSON-SHARING PLATFORMS FOR TEACHERS SUCH AS NEARPOD AND MORE RECENTLY SEESAW, INDEXING OUR LESSONS TO NUMEROUS NATIONAL LEARNING STANDARDS TO MAKE THEM MORE ACCESSIBLE AND USABLE IN SCHOOLS NATIONWIDE. IN ADDITION, WE USED SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS POPULAR WITH TEACHERS TO BUILD A COMMUNITY OF HUMANE EDUCATORS AND RAISE AWARENESS OF HEART'S LESSONS. THESE DIGITAL EXPANSIONS HAVE ENABLED OUR RESOURCES TO REACH THOUSANDS MORE STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPING A K-3 GUIDE WITH LESSONS AND ACTIVITIES FOR TEACHING ABOUT FARM ANIMALS. THIS CURRICULUM WILL HELP CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS AND EMOTIONAL LIVES OF FARM ANIMALS AND STRESSES THE IMPORTANCE OF CURIOSITY AND CONNECTION WITH THEM. IT WILL INCLUDE PROJECTS FOR STUDENTS TO TAKE ACTION AS WELL AS DIFFERENT LEARNING STATION ACTIVITIES. THE K-3 GUIDE IS PROJECTED TO BE RELEASED IN AUGUST 2020.WE PROVIDED SPECIALIZED HUMANE EDUCATION CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRAMMING TO MEET SPECIFIC NEEDS OF SCHOOLS AND NONPROFITS. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO ADD TO RESOURCES ON OUR WEBSITE, INCLUDING OUR HUMANE BOOK LISTS AND LIBRARY OF ARCHIVED HEART TEACHER TRAINING WEBINARS AND VIDEO PRESENTATIONS, WHICH ARE AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD.
