CANTUS WAS FOUNDED ON THE IDEALS OF COLLABORATIVE MUSIC-MAKING: ARTISTS AND STAFF WORK TOGETHER TO REACH NEW LEVELS OF ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION AND AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT. ANNUAL HOME CONCERTS: ATTENDANCE OF MORE THAN 7,945 IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. CANTUS PROGRAMMED AND PERFORMED FIVE CONCERT PROGRAMS THAT ADVANCED ITS VISION TO GIVE VOICE TO SHARED HUMAN EXPERIENCE, IN ADDITION TO ONE COLLABORATIVE CONCERT WITH LORELEI VOCAL ENSEMBLE. CANTUS CONCERTS ARE BUILT ON A CENTRAL THEME AND OFTEN INCORPORATE SPOKEN WORD. THE ORGANIZATION PERFORMED ONE NEWLY COMMISSIONED WORK (LIBBY LARSEN'S "YOU") AS PART OF ITS FALL AND TOURING PROGRAM, "ALONE TOGETHER." OPEN REHEARSALS: ATTENDANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 200 IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. CANTUS HAS A TRADITION OF FOSTERING MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT WITH AUDIENCE MEMBERS BEYOND STAGED PERFORMANCES. TO FURTHER AUDIENCE RELATIONSHIPS AND ADVANCE UNDERSTANDING OF CANTUS' WORK, THE ORGANIZATION SCHEDULES AND PROMOTES FREE MONTHLY OPEN REHEARSALS BETWEEN AUGUST AND MAY TO PROVIDE THE COMMUNITY WITH ACCESS TO ART AND THE CHANCE TO OBSERVE CANTUS' COLLABORATIVE PROCESS. EDUCATIONAL RESIDENCIES IN HIGH SCHOOLS: 160 ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS. A COMMITMENT TO DEEPENING THE MUSIC-EDUCATION EXPERIENCE IN THE LIVES OF YOUNG PEOPLE IS INTEGRAL TO CANTUS' MISSION. EACH YEAR, CANTUS SELECTS AND WORKS WITH THREE HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE GREATER TWIN CITIES METRO AREA IN YEAR-LONG RESIDENCIES, COACHING AND GUIDING STUDENTS IN THE TECHNIQUE OF ENSEMBLE SINGING. THIS AWARD-WINNING PROGRAM INCLUDES MULTIPLE VISITS BY CANTUS SINGERS TO EACH SCHOOL, A THREE-SCHOOL "FESTIVAL DAY" REHEARSAL, AND A CULMINATING CONCERT. IN FY19, CANTUS WORKED WITH STUDENTS FROM MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST, EAST RIDGE, AND MONTICELLO HIGH SCHOOLS. MEDIA INITIATIVES: 3 MILLION LISTENERS VIA PUBLIC BROADCASTING, INCLUDING PERFORMANCES BROADCAST ON MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO AND SIRIUS XM RADIO'S SYMPHONY HALL CHANNEL. CANTUS RECORDS HOME CONCERTS AND MAKES PORTIONS AVAILABLE ONLINE AND THROUGH DIGITAL AND BROADCAST MEDIA. CANTUS RELEASES AT LEAST ONE FREE DOWNLOAD EACH MONTH THROUGH SOUNDCLOUD.
