Mission

The mission of Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Inc is to improve the quality of life in our community by providing access to critical human services, fostering and promoting personal growth, and developing community leadership.

About

Food shelf and basic needs. In 2018, food shelf services continued to respond to the demand for nutritious and culturally appropriate choices by expanding the community area offerings. In addition to traditional client appointments, this drop-in option was open three days a week for all to use. Thousands of pounds of high quality fresh and nutritious produce comprised a substantial benefit to those in adjacent 'food desert' areas. Between the two core services, over 850,000 pounds of food were distributed through the year among nearly 50,000 participant visits. Other offerings saw record participation as well: for example, over 1400 children were served through the Hallie's toy shop annual toy distribution event. A new program for 2018, fresh produce Fridays, significantly increased the availability of fresh produce in season for several months of the year. In 2018, an increasing number of clients found ways to give back to the center: more participants came in for other activities, including jobs training and tech classes, and increasing numbers of former clients have volunteered and donated services to others in the program.
