About this organization
Mission
The Baraboo Food Pantry (BFP) strives to ease hunger in the Baraboo school district by distributing donated and purchased food, including USDA commodities.
About
The Baraboo Food Pantry (BFP) operates Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. throughout the year. During these hours, registered BFP clients can receive food and health products. BFP receives government commodities from the USDA, so individuals must register to use BFP services. The registration process includes collecting information about family income, address, the number of household members, and their ages. Once registered, individuals can only visit the pantry once a month, and BFP staff record the date of each client’s visit. Starting in October 2024, BFP has expanded its service area to include individuals outside the designated region. In 2024, BFP assisted 4,009 families, a 24% increase from 2023. The total number of people served reached 10,744, reflecting a 20% rise from the previous year. The average monthly number of families served is 334, a 24% increase from 2023. The average number of people served each month is 895, indicating a 21% increase from 2023. The food provided for distribution comes from both purchased and donated food. Food sources include the USDA, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, Kwik Trip convenience stores, Express Market, and Festival Foods. In 2024, the pantry received over 103,000 pounds of food donated by grocery stores, community organizations, and individuals. The USDA inspects BFP operations two times a year, while the Second Harvest conducts an annual inspection. These inspections involve reviewing records of documented freezer temperatures, cooling equipment, and cleaning practices, as documented and submitted to the USDA by BFP staff. To comply with guidelines, BFP submits a monthly inventory report to the USDA as required.
