Mission

Green Our Planet’s mission is to increase student engagement and achievement in STEM subjects as well as in nutrition, conservation and entrepreneurship by building outdoor gardens and/or installing hydroponic systems in schools. Green Our Planet also offers three different,15-hour STEM teacher trainings so that teachers are better able to teach STEM in a hand-on manner. Green Our Planet runs its Outdoor Garden and Hydroponics Programs in more than 150 PreK-5 schools in 10 different states in the U.S.

THE OUTDOOR GARDEN CLASSROOM PROGRAM INCLUDES AN 800-PAGE, PREK-5TH GRADE STEAM CURRICULUM, FARMERS MARKETS, CHEF DEMOS, AND TEACHER TRAINING. CURRENTLY, THE PROGRAM IS ONE OF THE LARGEST AND MOST COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL GARDEN PROGRAMS IN THE UNITED STATES, OPERATING IN MORE THAN 150 SCHOOLS (82% OF WHICH ARE TITLE I SCHOOLS) ACROSS SOUTHERN NEVADA AND IMPACTING MORE THAN 100,000 STUDENTS. MORE THAN 1,200 TEACHERS HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO TEACH IN THE GARDENS, USING THE CURRICULUM. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES STUDENT- RUN FARMERS MARKETS, WHICH ARE THE LARGEST IN THE STATE, AND A FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM THAT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BANK OF NEVADA, TRAINS STUDENTS TO RUN BUSINESSES IN 5TH GRADE. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION CREATED NEVADA'S FIRST SCHOOL GARDEN CONFERENCE, WHICH HAS BECOME VERY POPULAR WITH EDUCATORS AND IS NOW IN ITS 6TH YEAR. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO HELPED CREATE NEVADA'S FIRST SPECIAL NEEDS GARDEN VOCATIONAL CURRICULUM FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS.
