MOONEY CENTER - THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB IS AN AFFILIATE OF THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF AMERICA, THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION THAT HAS DEVELOPED EFFECTIVE YOUTH PROGRAMS FOR NEARLY A CENTURY. THE CLUB'S YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES HELP PREPARE KIDS TO BECOME HEALTHY AND PRODUCTIVE ADULTS BY SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF ATTITUDES, BEHAVIORS, AND SKILLS THAT ENABLE THEM TO SUCCEED IN THE CLASSROOM, IN THE WORKFORCE, AND IN THE WORLD. STRUCTURED ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: POWER HOUR (A SUCCESSFUL AFTER-SCHOOL HOMEWORK PROGRAM THAT HELPS KIDS WITH THEIR HOMEWORK), PROJECT LEARN (A PROGRAM THAT HUNDREDS OF KIDS PARTICIPATE IN EACH YEAR THE PROGRAM PROVIDES THEM WITH INCENTIVES TO PARTICIPATE IN LEISURE READING, CREATIVE WRITING ACTIVITIES, AND PLAYING GAMES LIKE SCRABBLE THAT DEVELOP CHILDREN'S COGNITIVE SKILLS), KEYSTONE CLUB (LEADERSHIP SERVICE CLUBS FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS), SMART MOVES (SKILLS MASTERY RESISTANCE TRAINING), JR. STAFF (EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOR TEENS), AND PRESIDENTIAL FITNESS & NIKE CHALLENGE PROJECTS THAT COMBINE DAILY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WITH TEAMWORK, PROBLEM-SOLVING AND CREATIVE THINKING. THESE PROGRAMS PROMOTE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THROUGH EDUCATIONAL & ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS. THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB'S COMPUTER LAB WAS UPGRADED TO A TECHNOLOGY CENTER, THROUGH A NATIONAL BOYS & GIRLS CLUB GRANT, ENABLING CHILDREN AGES 7-17 TO BECOME PROFICIENT IN BASIC EDUCATIONAL CONCEPTS, APPLY LEARNING TO EVERYDAY SITUATIONS, AND EMBRACE TECHNOLOGY THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB DOESN'T SIMPLY PROVIDE A VALUABLE SERVICE TO WORKING PARENTS; IT PROVIDES A VALUABLE SERVICE TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY BECAUSE THOUSANDS OF KIDS HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO GO.
