About

The Tenderloin Museum celebrates the rich history of one of San Francisco's most overlooked and marginalized neighborhoods. Since opening in July 2015, TLM has hosted 30 free art exhibitions to date, which have featured Tenderloin-based artists or Tenderloin-related topics, more than 200 Tenderloin walking tours focused on architectural, activist, LGBTQ, immigrant, and nightlife history and culture, numerous multi-generational storytelling events featuring performances by at-risk youth receiving services at Larkin Street Youth Center, seniors from the Curry Senior Center, individuals in recovery from addiction in the Tenderloin, and local SRO residents. (See Schedule O for more details) The events included more than 100 lectures, discussions, and film screenings focused on histories and cultures of the neighborhood's LGBTQ and racially and ethnically diverse communities. These programs complement our acclaimed permanent exhibition, an unparalleled collection of photographs and ephemera exploring the rich history of the Tenderloin. We're grateful to have been received with open arms by our community- 5,000 people visit the museum each year, including 150 school groups.
