Mission

Help preschool and early elementary children with speech and/or language problems

About

The center offers free screenings, evaluations, therapy, counseling, and education of communication skills. Free speech therapy is available to any child who is age two to seven years old without regard to race, color, creed or gender, provided they are unable to pay for or receive adequate therapy elsewhere. The center contracts for speech therapist services with Sanford Health. The center served approximately 80 children in 2018. Since inception in 1992, over 600 children have received services. Therapy provided is based on a parent-involved discipline practice. Involving the parent in the process ensures that the parent and not the therapist is the authority figure to assure that lessons assigned are carried out at home. Children are kept in the program until the parents or therapist determine therapy is no longer needed. Some children may only need a couple sessions while others will be involved on a long-term basis. The center focuses on children two to seven but if room allows, children birth to 18 can be offered help.
