Mission

Open your heart to the hungry and homeless believes that every Minnesotan should be free from hunger and homelessness. We make an impact by partnering with those who serve people in need, growing donor engagement and increasing awareness in Minnesota.

About

Nearly 8,000 Minnesotans experienced homelessness in 2019, up 10% from the previous year and the highest level in five years according to an annual count by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In 2019, Open your heart provided financial and technical support to 189 providers of crisis services throughout Minnesota, ensuring they had the tools, equipment and infrastructure necessary to carry out their work. Through our education grants, we supported shelters and programs serving children and youth experiencing homelessness to help them succeed in school. Our student scholarship program provided 13 scholarships to college students who were currently or formerly homeless. Through our special projects, we raised awareness and responded to the needs and challenges faced by food shelves, homeless shelters and supportive living centers. This included funding towards transportation and improvement in infrastructure of agencies serving a growing number of senior citizens.
