Mission

Reading in Motion’s mission is to get every student, especially those whose environment or circumstances put them in greater need of support, reading at or above grade level within the first years of school through the power and discipline of the arts. We do this by partnering with schools in need of support and training their teachers to deliver our engaging core-wraparound literacy curriculum to their prekindergarten through second grade students.

About

Benchmarks is a world-class reading program for at-risk children. The program uses arts-based activities that are physical, kinesthetic and imaginative to address key reading skills. Benchmarks includes the extra dosage component, which provides well-trained extra dosage instructors in first grade classrooms to provide additional small group instruction, at the same time the teacher is doing small group instruction in the same room. During the years ended June 30, 2019 and 2018, 4,175 and 3,500 kindergarten and first grade students benefited from this program, respectively.
