Mission

Illinois Action for Children is a catalyst for organizing, developing and supporting strong families and powerful communities where children matter most.

About

Illinois Action for Children’s direct work with high-need families drives our innovative and effective programs and advocacy. Supporting children by supporting families is a proven and effective means to address overarching issues of endemic poverty. We serve 150,000 children and families every year to ensure they have access to high-quality early care and education opportunities. In 2020, we helped distribute more than $150,000 in gift cards and funding to families and providers experiencing negative impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. We know, with scientific certainty, that the earliest years of life are the most important for educational achievement, social productivity, economic stability, emotional wellbeing, and lifelong health. With that in mind, our goal is to create a just system for child care and early education that ensures racially and economically equitable outcomes for all children.
