About

2018 Youth Together AccomplishmentsIn 2018, Youth Together provided year-round youth development and leadership, after school academic and enrichment programs, coordinated parent support services, conducted summer bridge for youth and families, and facilitated site wide weekly activities. The youth development and leadership program intensively supported a cohort of 12 leaders from three high school sites in Oakland Unified School District. Each youth participant received intensive case management, Student Empowerment Plans to help with academic success and provide social emotional support. The high school youth between the ages of 14-18 years old were selected from three school sites in Oakland Unified School District, Skyline, Castlemont, and McClymonds high school. The program consists of weekly regional trainings, community building activities, and exposure fieldtrips such as college tours and conferences. The youth leaders actively participated in civic engagement with site and district leadership, city council, and community leaders. At our One Land One People Youth Center located at Skyline high school we conducted 21,844 units of service in our after-school program. Students may access academic or enrichment services before or after-school. Our program consists of morning academic support which is located at the school site library five days a week an hour before school is in session as well as drop in support in our Youth Center. Youth Together hosted a total of 23 programs from gender support groups to driver education to STEM programs.Our Family Engagement Liaison directly supports parents through monthly workshops, on campus tours and walks, supporting with attendance intervention, and parent leadership. Youth Together supported over 300 parents and coordinated a summer bridge academy for English language learners that had a total of 40 parents. One of the biggest hurdles for incoming 9th graders is academics and transitioning from small campuses to larger sites. Youth Together in partnership with Skyline high school provided 15 full days of programming which focused on Algebra, English, and Community Building activities for 65 participants in addition to 10 upper classmen peer mentors. Participants also learned how to comprehend transcripts, credits, the importance of attendance, and meeting teachers and classified staff before the first day of school.
