Educational, Curatorial, and Exhibits: 1) Nearly 47,000 individuals (a 7% increase) visited the museum's exhibits, toured its historic houses, and participated in its school and public programs. 2) Of the museum's total visitors, which includes tourists and community residents, over 25% enjoyed the Oliver Mansion through daily house tours, group tours, school visits, or public programs. 3) "Spirited: Prohibition in America", a traveling exhibit organized by the National Constitution Center, Philadelphia, in partnership with Mid-America Arts Alliance, Kansas City, MO, was on view in the Changing Gallery January 26-March 17. 4) "Keepers of the Fire: The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi," developed in partnership with the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, was on view in the Changing Gallery April 27-January 19, 2020. 5) In partnership with Shakespeare at Notre Dame, the exhibit "Full Circle: Shakespearean Culture at Notre Dame" opened on August 24 and will be on view through September 6, 2021. 6) In honor of the 50th year of the Apollo moon landing, the exhibit "The Final Frontier: Bendix and the Apollo Program" opened on July 6. 7) Special exhibits commemorated anniversaries of Teachers Credit Union, Junior League of South Bend, and Community Foundation of St. Joseph County's African American Community Fund. IU South Bend partnered with The History Museum in an exhibit chronicling the 200th anniversary of Indiana University, which includes the IU South Bend campus. 8) On September 26, 2019, The History Museum honored the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi at the museum's Annual Dinner, their major fund-raising event. Over 350 guests attended the event. 9) Over 350 community residents enjoyed free visits to The History Museum on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, held in conjunction with Studebaker National Museum. 10) The History Museum had 762 membership households at the end of 2019, a 3% growth from the previous year and the highest total of the past 4 years. 11) The public responded positively to a wide variety of public programs offered during the year. Over 3,195 community residents participated in programs that included lectures, museum theatre, living history festivals, and cemetery tours. The total marks a 44% increase over the previous year and the highest total of the past 4 years. 12) In conjunction with the exhibit, "The Pokagon Festival", a free event celebrating the culture of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, took place on August 10 in the Historic Oliver Gardens and was attended by nearly 150. 13) For the first time in 5 years, The History Museum partnered with 88.1 WVPE Public Radio to host 579 individuals on site for Music in the Gardens. Free visits to all 6 exhibits were offered. 14) On July 13, on the occasion of the Studebaker National Museum's Concours d'Elegance at Copshaholm, The History Museum provided tours of the Oliver Mansion to 595 guests. 15) Over 5,200 school students participated in museum visits, including visits to the Navarre Cabin to learn about local pioneers in the 1830s during "Cabin Days." The total is a 3% growth over the previous year. 16) Over 1,200 children 5 and under visited the museum's Kidsfirst Children's Museum. 17) Volunteers served as docents for scheduled and school tours of the Oliver Mansion. Docents represent over at least half of the museum's volunteer corps. 18) The History Museum Archives Department retrieved research information for a total of 411 individuals through onsite visits, e-mails, and telephone inquiries. 19) Each week for the South Bend Tribune, The History Museum compiled lists of past newspaper headlines from the museum's archives for publication as "Headlines in History" in each Monday's newspaper. "A Look Back," a photograph and article on local history written by museum staff, was published weekly in the South Bend Tribune for over 30 weeks.
