Community Impact. Assess the needs in St. Joseph County in relation to poverty and issues impacting ALICE (Assets Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families. Manage initiatives focused on Early Learning, Youth Success, and Stable Families, as well as emergency and crisis services. Guide the investment award process for initiatives addressing those needs. This has resulted in over 146,704 people served through UWSJC's Impact Partners' 42 programs, as well as initiatives provided by UWSJC. Those initiatives include Team HEAT, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), Emergency Food & Shelter Fund (EFSP), Project Lead the Way, Kindergarten Camp, Born Learning Academies, AmeriCorps, and People Gotta' Eat (PGE). Through VITA, over 3,990 federal and state tax returns were filed. Team HEAT - assisted 307 households in maintaining their heat during the winter months. EFSP - helped partner agencies serve 4,871 meals and 1,720 nights of lodging through federal funds made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency. PGE served meals to over 23,000 families. AmeriCorps - Members served 23,053 hours and received 3,282 training hours at AmeriCorps Service Sites in the areas of Financial Literacy, School Readiness, Capacity Building, and Volunteer Recruitment. In addition, services valued at $113,459 were provided by volunteers to this program that are not included in the above expense total.
