Mission

Developments in Literacy (DIL) was founded in 1997 by Pakistani-Americans who sought to improve the dismal state of education in Pakistan's underserved areas. With a strong focus on gender equality and community participation, we are dedicated to empowering and providing quality education to over 27,000 disenfranchised children by establishing and operating over 130 student-centered model schools in underserved regions of Pakistan. DIL directly operates community schools in Punjab and Sindh, and partners with non-governmental organizations to educate underserved children in all four provinces of Pakistan. In addition, we provide high-quality professional development to teachers and principals across the country.

About

The child has always been and will always be at the heart of what we do. Impelled by the belief that all children should have equal opportunity to reach their greatest potential, we are committed to delivering affordable high-quality education. Our synthesis of technologically driven learning, rigorous teacher training, tailored curricula, and project-based activities has enabled students to apply the concepts they learn to everyday life while exploring the farthest limits of their imagination. DIL operates a total of 168 schools that currently serve over 59,000 students in Pakistan. Our schools are distributed across 14 projects covering 3 provinces (Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab) and 1 federal territory (Islamabad Capital Territory or ICT). Moreover, 84 out of our 168 schools, which amounts to 50% of our network, are managed in partnership with the Pakistani government across four national sectors, one of which is under the aegis of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
