Boys to Men’s mission is to build communities of positive male role models who, through consistent group mentoring, encourage and empower teenage boys through the development of positive decision-making and coping skills as well as meaningful social/emotional connections.

School-based Group Mentoring: Boys with academic and/or behavior issues are encouraged by the school administration to attend Boys to Men (BTM) in-school groups during school hours; one hour per week. These young men and volunteer mentors participate in a structured program of support guided by youth group facilitator staff.There were thirty-six (36) schools throughout San Diego County that partnered with BTM to meet the needs of their at-risk and emotionally disconnect teenage boys from ages 12 through 18 years old. These partnerships provided a commitment to 764 young boys in need of strong and positive male influence in their life, promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future by the support of ten (10) youth group facilitators and eighty (80) volunteer mentors throughout the year. Only through personal relationships can a sense of individual responsibility be reestablished that will give youth the commitment to follow through on a path to adulthood with a sense of pride, accomplishment and accountability.Open Community Group Mentoring: Open to boys in San Diego County who do not attend a BTM program at one of our partner schools. These young men and volunteer mentors meet bi-weekly and participate in a structured program of support guided by youth group facilitator staff.There were two (2) open community locations; Spring Valley and Encinitas that was available to the community of teenage youth to meet the needs of their emotional and empowerment support. These open community locations provided a commitment to one-hundred fifty (150) young boys in need of strong and positive male influence in their life with the support of ten (10) youth group facilitators and fifty (50) volunteer mentors.Adventure Mountain Weekends (AMW): An invitational weekend retreat that is a transformational experience for boys where they reflect on their lives, and are able to break through their emotional barriers while being surrounded by the support of their peers and mentors. Through various camping activities boys learn teamwork and take on leadership roles. By participating in various discussions and activities, these young men are able topractice their decision-making skills, build their self-esteem, and take nextsteps to meet their personal and life goals.There were seven (7) AMW weekends offered throughout the academic year that hosted a total of 300 boys and 80 volunteer mentors this year.Community Engagement Opportunities: Open to all 764 boys enrolled in BTM program to stay connected, enrich their personal experiences with BTM, provide community service opportunities, awareness and engagement activities for the boys throughout the year.BTM offered ten (10) community engagement opportunities to program participants. Over 100 boys and 30 volunteer mentors engaged in these community opportunities this year. BTM assisted three (3) community businesses this year.
