MESSIAH LIFEWAYS COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES (MLCSS) PROVIDES A NUMBER OF IMPORTANT SERVICES TO THE CAPITAL REGION OFFERING MORE CHOICE TO OLDER ADULTS TO AGE IN PLACE AND STAY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY. THESE SERVICES INCLUDE: MESSIAH LIFEWAYS ADULT DAY WITH LOCATIONS IN MECHANICSBURG AND CARLISLE, MESSIAH LIFEWAYS AT HOME, MECHANICSBURG PLACE: A SENIOR CENTER AND MORE, AND PATHWAYS INSTITUTE FOR LIFELONG LEARNING. WE CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON GROWING COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES AND SERVING MORE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH LIMITED RESOURCES.CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.SOME NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR MLCSS IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2019 ARE AS FOLLOWS:MESSIAH LIFEWAYS AT HOME CONTINUES SERVING INDIVIDUALS IN THEIR HOMES. AT HOME PROVIDED 42,856 HOURS OF NON-MEDICAL HOME CARE TO 352 OLDER ADULTS IN CUMBERLAND, DAUPHIN, PERRY AND NORTHERN YORK COUNTIES THIS PAST YEAR. AT HOME WAS ALSO VOTED AS HARRISBURG MAGAZINE'S "READERS CHOICE" IN THE HOME CARE CATEGORY FOR 2019. MESSIAH LIFEWAYS CONTINUES TO EDUCATE THE TARGET MARKET ON ADULT DAY SERVICES AND MESSIAH LIFEWAYS AT HOME THROUGH THE USE OF BILLBOARDS, PRINT ADS, AND PARTICIPATION IN EXPOS AND LOCAL EVENTS GEARED TOWARDS THE 55+ COMMUNITY AND THEIR CAREGIVERS. MECHANICSBURG ADULT DAY'S AVERAGE DAILY CENSUS IS BETWEEN 18 - 24 PERSONS, WHILE CARLISLE ADULT DAY AVERAGED BETWEEN 13-15 CLIENTS. MESSIAH LIFEWAYS COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES SAW GROWTH IN ITS SENIOR CENTER IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY CALLED MECHANICSBURG PLACE: A SENIOR CENTER & MORE. ON AVERAGE, 1,606 OLDER ADULTS UTILIZED THE SENIOR CENTER ON A MONTHLY BASIS, AND 6,095 MEALS WERE SERVED IN THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. MECHANICSBURG PLACE IS A PROGRAM OF MESSIAH LIFEWAYS AND IS SUPPORTED, IN PART, BY A GRANT FROM THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY OFFICE OF AGING AND COMMUNITY SERVICES, THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF AGING, AND THE US DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES ADMINISTRATION ON AGING. THE PATHWAYS INSTITUTE FOR LIFELONG LEARNING ENROLLED 431 MEMBERS IN A VARIETY OF LIFELONG LEARNING COURSES TAUGHT BY PROFESSORS FROM AREA COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES AS WELL AS SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS IN THE REGION. THE PATHWAYS INSTITUTE CONSISTENTLY DRAWS MEMBERSHIP FROM THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. LAST YEAR, 190 OUT OF 431 MEMBERS ATTENDED PATHWAYS FROM THE REGION, WHILE 241 WERE RESIDENTS OF MESSIAH LIFEWAYS AT MESSIAH VILLAGE.THE DONOR & VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT OFFICE WORKED DILIGENTLY WITH PRIVATE DONORS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS. MOST NOTABLY FOR ADULT DAY THEY WORKED WITH AN ANONYMOUS DONOR WHO PROVIDED A $10,000 CHALLENGE GRANT TO RAISE OPERATING DOLLARS FOR ADULT DAY PROGRAMS. THIS DONOR MATCHED, DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR, GIFTS UP TO $10,000. THE GOAL WAS SURPASSED, HELPING RAISE A TOTAL OF $29,048.34 FOR ADULT DAY OPERATING NEEDS. OF THIS, $2,000 CAME FROM A GRANT FROM THE HALL FOUNDATION. ADDITIONALLY, THE FAMILY MEMBER OF A DECEASED MECHANICSBURG PLACE MEMBER DONATED $1,000 TO ENHANCE WELLNESS OFFERINGS IN THE SENIOR CENTER.JANUARY 2019, MESSIAH VILLAGE WAS PLEASED TO PARTNER WITH ADVANTAGECARE HOME HEALTH SERVICES, WHICH OFFERS THERAPIES AND SKILLED NURSING SERVICES IN THE HOME. IT COMPLEMENTS THE NON-MEDICAL HOME CARE PROVIDED BY MESSIAHLIFEWAYS AT HOME FOLLOWING A HOSPITALIZATION OR DISCHARGE FROM WAGNER AS THE RESIDENT REGAINS CONFIDENCE IN ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING.
