Mission

In 2019, the Athens Conservancy purchased two parcels of land with a combined acreage of over 500 acres. We hired several people to remove invasive plants from our lands.

About

Maintenance of property either owned by the Athens Conservancy or on which the Athens Conservancy holds a conservation easement consists of three main facets. The expenses were mostly to hire people over the summer to remove invasive plant species. This is done to improve the health of the forest land. Maintenance also includes the property taxes that we pay before we can apply for tax exemption on each parcel. We cannot apply until the first year in which we own the property on January 1. Lastly, there is the monitoring of the property, primarily the easements, to ascertain that there are no violations of the easement.
