REHABILITATION OF LANGUAGE & SPEECH DISORDERS: SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY: IN 2018, THE CENTER'S LICENSED AND CERTIFIED SPEECH PATHOLOGISTS (SLPS) PROVIDED SERVICES TO 4,642 INDIVIDUALS. OF THOSE SERVICED, 1,243 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVICED AT THE CENTER. SPEECH SERVICES INCLUDED: DIAGNOSIS OF, AND TREATMENT FOR, A VARIETY OF COMMUNICATION DELAYS, DISORDERS AND/OR DISABILITIES; THESE INCLUDE EXPRESSIVE AND RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE, ARTICULATION, AND FLUENCY, AS WELL AS, STUTTERING AND VOICE PROBLEMS. MORE THAN 500 ADDITIONAL CHILDREN RECEIVED SPEECH SERVICES AT SCHOOL SITES IN THE COLUMBUS AREA AND ALMOST 3,000 CHILDREN RECEIVED SPEECH AND/OR HEARING SCREENINGS AT DIFFERENT SITES IN CENTRAL OHIO; THESE SITES INCLUDED AREA SCHOOLS, PRESCHOOLS, AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SITES. THE CENTER CONTINUED ITS COMMITMENT TO ADULTS IN THE COMMUNITY, PROVIDING SERVICES TO A LOCAL PARKINSON'S SUPPORT GROUP. DURING WEEKLY SESSIONS, THE GROUP WORKED WITH AN SLP TO STRENGTHEN ORAL MOTOR SKILLS, MEMORY, VOICE VOLUME, BREATHING AND POSTURE ALL OF WHICH ARE COMMONLY IMPACTED BY THE DISEASE. SPEECH CLINICAL STAFF PROVIDED FREE CONSULTATION AT LOCAL AREA 'PLAY CENTERS AND LIBRARIES TO PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS WITH QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT THEIR CHILD'S SPEECH DEVELOPMENT. SLPS ALSO PROVIDED EDUCATION AND INSTRUCTION TO TEACHERS AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS AT TRAINING SEMINARS HELD LOCALLY, STATEWIDE AND NATIONALLY.
