Mission

The Alliance for a Better Community (ABC) promotes equity for Latinos in education, health, economic development and civic engagement for the betterment of the Los Angeles region.

About

ABC was founded with a recognition that Latinos were quickly becoming the largest ethnic group in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and because of a need to ensure the state's and city's investment in the future of the Latino community. For nearly 20 years, ABC has partnered with diverse groups of advocates, research organizations, local elected officials, community based organizations, parents and students to foster public awareness, policy and research that supports the advancement of Latinos towards a more prosperous future. With access to equitable and quality public education at the center of our work for 2017 and 2018, ABC aims to deepen the awareness between educational gaps and health and economic disparities and their interdependence in achieving healthy, quality lives for Latinos. Since its inception, ABC has worked closely with the Los Angeles Unified School District LAUSD, community leaders and parents to increase equity and create college and career pathways that break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Through coalition campaigns, ABC has successfully led the adoption of resolutions that identify meaningful goals and systemic solutions to forever close educational gaps and increase college preparation in LAUSD's K-12 public schools, specifically for low-income students, English learners and foster youth.
