Cleanups, beautification, and placemaking: more than 13,600 volunteers joined KIB in cleaning and revitalizing neighborhoods in 2018. KIB coordinated 777 neighborhood cleanups to combat heavy litter, and more than 728 neighborhood leaders adopted their blocks to keep them clean on an ongoing basis, using free supplies and resources from KIB. Together, people removed more than 615.1 tons of litter from Indianapolis streets, alleys, greenspaces, and waterways. KIB's greenspace program, which is committed to creating vibrant places and communities, transformed vacant lots and underused spaces into natural, beautiful, and functional pocket parks. KIB created three greenspaces in 2018 and helped project partners maintain 22 greenspaces created in past years.
