The mission of the Karen Organization of Minnesota is to enhance the quality of life for all refugees from Burma in Minnesota.

Social services: KOM addresses a wide variety of self-sufficiency needs for refugees through social services programs in its Roseville and Marshall offices. In 2019, KOM provided case management for over 400 individuals to address needs including: public assistance access, housing support, immigration services, case-managed family support services, and services to elders. KOM provided MNSURE navigation to help over 350 individuals enroll in health insurance. KOM coordinated the Karen weaving circle for 12 refugees to practice, teach, and promote weaving traditions. KOM provided community health education to over 200 adults and youth on topics including tobacco cessation, addiction, mental health, parenting skills, and family planning methods. Finally, KOM staff held over 2,000 hours of walk-in appointments to assist clients with urgent and complex needs outside of available programs.
