As the leading nonprofit, nonpartisan philanthropic partner of the National Park Service dedicated to restoring, enriching and preserving the National Mall, the trust brings expertise, private funding and in-kind support to time-sensitive restoration and sustainability projects, mobilizes volunteers and provides educational opportunities to ensure that the National Mall endures and evolves as a vibrant space for all. Restoration and sustainability: supplied expertise and active project management that designs and delivers resilient, sustainable features and new revenue sources to fund maintenance in order to transform all 770 acres of the National Mall into a modern urban park. In 2018, the trust continued work on the George Mason Memorial restoration project and completed most of the features of phase I of Constitution Gardens project, including the restoration and relocation of the lockkeeper's house. Preliminary planning began on the U.S. Park Police horse stables restoration project and the Tidal Basin Ideas Lab.
