International Peace and Dialogue program engages directly with foreign leaders, governments and regimes:North Korea Project The purpose of this project is to break through the ongoing tension over nuclear weapons and establish more stable relations between the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the International Community. In 2018, the Center helped secure the return of 55 boxes of remains of US servicemen from North Korea, with estimated 170 U.S. remains in them.Capacity Building Training and Education to Governments in Transition In 2018, theCenter participated in the International Commissions on Rakhine State in Myanmar, focused on the Rohingya genocide. The Center then launched an engagement program in Bangladesh, looking to develop and assist in the medium and long-term sustainable management of the Rohingya refugees crisis.The Center also conducted its fifth exchange delegation of young political leaders and entrepreneurs to Cuba, building on the engagement there.The Center continued its partnership with the International Commission to Abolish the Death Penalty.Negotiating for Release of political prisoners and hostages The Center has pastexperience and established protocols for negotiating for the humanitarian release of detained individuals, whether held by regimes or criminal organizations. In 2018, the Center has been involved in the efforts to bring back hostages and politicalprisoners from Iran, DRC, West Africa, Myanmar, and Gambia.
