About

Kids Club - In 2019, Kids Club placed particular emphasis on creating a healthy space for students to flourish. From January to June of 2019 40 students were enrolled in the after-school program and from September to December of 2019 39 students were enrolled. They received daily academic support and services. Kids Club programming includes a nutritious snack, math support, homework help, reading support, computer practice in school-based math and reading programs, life skills activities, Bible-based character development lessons, activities in the arts, physical movement time, writing workshops, and monthly experience and exposure reward field trips. Summer Club is a three-week program in July which, in 2019, targeted developing reading and math skills and involved 9 students who were identified by their teachers as needing additional summer support. The program included one hour of reading and math support Monday through Friday, with an average of one volunteer per two students, allowing for personalized attention to meet each student's needs and help them grow in areas of learning deficits. Grade level reading and math skills were practiced and strengthened through interactive, hands on small group and individual activities. Thanks to support from a Mount Vernon Community School teacher, students at Summer Club also had the opportunity to be exposed to coding programs and worked in partners to practice coding skills.Casa Friends Camp was a one weeklong full day camp in August of 2019 for fourteen 1st-5th grade students, and offered themed activities from arts to nature, from science to sports, and a bible camp. Daily activities involved a team building activity, communal and individual art projects, and Bible lessons. Our summer camp was supported by two local organizations. The Four Mile Run Nature Conservatory did a daily nature experience for the students, and Downtown Baptist Church ran a morning Bible camp. We were supported by an average of 8 volunteers a day. Students also participated in one field trip to the local pool.
