Mission

The Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums (ATALM) is an international membership organization that serves the needs of those who work to protect and advance indigenous cultures.

About

The 2018 International Conference of Indigenous Archives, Libraries, and Museums was held outside of Minneapolis on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community lands in Prior Lake, Minnesota from Oct. 8-11, 2018. Approximately 850 individuals attended the conference, with over 225 Tribes represented as well as 42 different states. Programming included federal meetings for library and Museum grantees, onsite preconference workshops on emergency planning, repatriation, federal funding, preserving photographs, and digitization projects. Off-site tours included trips to the National Eagle Center, Jeffers Petroglyphs, Lower Sioux Historic Site, Mille Lacs Indian Museum and historic Fort Snelling. Main days of programming were on the 10th and 11th with over 150 sessions offered. Note that there is an overlap between years as the conferences are held in October. Income is collected in one fiscal year and expended in another. A final program for 2018 is available at https://www.atalm.org/sites/default/files/ATALM2018%20Program%20FINAL%20Web3.pdf
