About this organization
Mission
Valued and empowered girls are essential to the prosperity of communities worldwide. We imagine a world where girls are healthy, educated, and in control of their own destiny - free from violence, disease, and limitations based on their gender. Wiser works with girls to transcend poverty, HIV/AIDS, and gender-based violence. We do this by creating environments that produce exceptional young women who drive change in their communities. We create these environments using four critical components: quality education, health, psychosocial support, and community investment.
About
Wiser Girls Secondary School - Wiser provided fully-funded secondary education, safe housing, leadership opportunities, skills development, mentorship, and psychosocial support to 180 girls, approximately 40% of whom were HIV/AIDS orphans in 2018. Wiser provided all the tools and resources those girls needed to thrive, including clothes, books, mosquito nets, healthy meals, clean water, and essential health resources. In 2018, 100% of Wiser students were provided access to menstrual pads, HIV testing, and one-on-one psychosocial guidance and counselling. Wiser is particularly dedicated to STEM excellence and provided all 180 students with access to a computer lab, robotics and engineering clubs, and two university-quality science labs where Wiser faculty teach using hands-on learning.
