About this organization
Mission
To provide support services to local communities and children's advocacy centers, to serve as a resource and to facilitate a network dedicated to coordinated and comprehensive response to child abuse.
About
As an accredited state chapter of the National Children's Alliance (NCA), the Vermont Children's Alliance (VCA) continued to grow in its ability to support and serve its 13 member child advocacy centers (CACs). The VCA currently has 10 accredited programs and 3 associate member programs. The VCA awarded scholarships to several programs to attend trainings required or otherwise desired to enhance and support the capacity of each program to serve its local community. The VCA provided funding in 2018 for the following trainings: 1) Victim Advocate Bootcamp where attendees learned strategies to engage and empower caregivers in their support of child sexual abuse victims as well as increased their understanding of multi- disciplinary team dynamics and implications for victim advocates as integral team members, 2) Accreditation Bootcamp, an intense session designed to ensure programs are ready for the accredition process with NCA, and 3) Working with Children with Disabilities and Vicarious Trauma and Resiliency training, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (T-CBT), an evidence based psychotherapy that aims to address the needs of children and adolescents with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other difficulties related to traumatic life events. Other activities included sending representatives to the Hope Changes Everything and Champions for Children's conferences. The VCA continues to engage in public awareness/social media campaigns intended to enhance the public's knowledge and awareness of child abuse and sexual violence. Finally, we continued to oversee the Outcome Measurement System (OMS) throughout our state; the OMS enables our programs to obtain valuable feedback from their clients and partners about areas of strength as well as areas of challenge.
