About this organization
Mission
The mission of the Center for Medicine After the Holocaust (CMATH) is to challenge doctors, nurses, and bioscientists to personally confront the medical ethics of the Holocaust and apply that knowledge to contemporary practice and research, being mindful of the Hippocratic Oath with every step. CMATH is concerned that healthcare personnel, like all human beings, have the capacity to believe they are doing good when they are actually doing harm.
About
CMATH's model is to identify and educate key leaders, called 'champions and empower them with the knowledge and tools to teach classes at their medical institutions throughout the United States on the topic of medical ethics, using the Holocaust as a backdrop. During this past year, we took 11 academic participants to Berlin for 5 days on the ground, with daily lectures and visits to medical sites relevant to the Holocaust. CMATH has now trained 143 champions. We also provide syllabi and a robust website (medicineaftertheholocaust.org) as resources for our champions. We also participate in numerous conferences throughout the United States dealing with medical ethics.
