Mission

Our main activity is hosting visiting literary speakers and readers, which we provide funds for published writers to travel to Miami to give readings and lead workshops. We also host lectures in Miami-Dade County in conjunction with other cultural organizations in which our partners donate the space and we provide the talent and publicity. Once a year, we will host a poetry festival in Miami-Dade County. We also plan to work with area schools to provide opportunities for students to interact with published authors.

About

Produced the eighth iteration of the O, Miami Poetry Festival, an annual, month-long festival with the goal of every single person in Miami-Dade County encountering a poem. The festival was comprised of 79 events and 30 projects and reached 79 out of 80 Miami-Dade ZIP codes. The festival's projects produced 7.2 million impressions. The events were attended by 9,505 people. Installed poets-in-residence at five different elementary schools to teach semester-long courses in creative writing to 167 3rd and 4th graders in Liberty City, Westchester, and Little Haiti. Each workshop culminated in a reading for families. Each kid was presented with a chapbook of the class's work as well as a photo-poem collage. Co-produced, with Chicago's Poetry Foundation, a five-day institute for 72 Miami-Dade public school teachers that taught them new ways to bring poetry into their classrooms
