Mission

Tandem, Partners in Early Learning® is a Bay Area nonprofit working at the intersection of social justice and early childhood education. We work alongside school districts, early childhood education providers and community-based organizations to co-create equitable, high-quality early learning experiences for children ages 0-5. By partnering with adults across children’s lives, we deliver impactful learning experiences that meet community priorities and address systemic barriers to opportunity.

StoryCyclesThis school-to-home book-sharing program provides high-quality, multilingual books to families each week. StoryCycles also includes educator trainings and family workshops that guide adults in simple, practical strategies to support healthy brain development and build early learning skills in young children. Research-informed strategies include interactive book-sharing, word games, rhyming songs, and other hands-on activities that foster early literacy skill development, social and emotional understanding, self-regulation, and critical thinking skills essential for kindergarten readiness. In the fiscal year ended June 30, 2018:2,900 early care and education providers and teachers received training.1,600 families participated in workshops about early learning strategies to use at home.15,000 high-need children shared 50,000+ high-quality, multilingual, diverse books with their families on a weekly basis.2,300 childrens books were distributed to families and educators to build their own libraries.
