About this organization
Mission
Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) exists to engage, assist and empower our nation’s “Sheep Dogs” (military veterans, law enforcement, fire & rescue, and EMS personnel) to Get Off The Couch™️ and reengage in living active, meaningful and productive lives. These heroes have an innate desire to serve and their service gives purpose to their lives; however, after an injury or shift/tour of duty ends, that purpose is often lost. This can lead to addiction, depression, isolation and suicidal ideation. By gathering together Sheep Dogs who have suffered similar experiences for camaraderie, peer support and healing, SDIA strives to prevent suicides in our Veteran and First Responder communities.
About
Outdoor Adventures - Disasters are not on a schedule, so we looked for other ways to keep our Sheep Dogs each month - opportunities that would provide them with new challenges and foster camaraderie. The Outdoor Adventures program accomplishes this, and includes hunting and fishing trips, obstacle course races, skydiving and scuba diving. For our sponsored Sheep Dogs (those injured in combat or the line of duty), these adventures present them with challenges that test their rehabilitation progress, restore independence and self-confidence, and support living life to the fullest. These opportunities for camaraderie and peer support are vital to inspiring a positive state of mind and perspective.
