About
Time Spans - Talea 17-18 season kicked off with a major week long partnership with the Time Spans Festival, presented by the Earle Brown Music Foundation. Under the curation and leadership of Thomas Fichter (executive director, EBMF), and summer institute faculty Chaya Czernowin and Steven Takasugi, Talea played three nights at the Dimenna Center to critical acclaim. Talea performed Czernowin's Ayre:Towed..., Takasugi's Diary of a Lung in a new expanded version, and Hans Tutschku's Periods of Existence, alongside eight new works by participant composers in the EBMF summer academy. Talea headlined the closing night of Times Spans 2017 with guest soloist Mollena Lee Williams-Haas as a storyteller, in the U.S. premiere of George Friedrich Haas' Hyena, a gripping autobiographical account of Ms. Williams-Haas' struggle with alcoholism. The New York Times hailed the five night festival as a critical success, noting 'forceful performance' of Haas' premiere.
