Rivers of Recovery represents a pro-active intervention. Our goal is to achieve lasting, positive changes in the lives of disabled veterans. This is done by helping our participants: rediscover a meaningful purpose in life. Reconnect with themselves, their families, fellow veterans and nature. Rebuild a sense of empowerment, self-esteem and self-confidence. Achieve success through learning and accomplishment. Recognize their competence and capabilities. Our mission is to provide our participants with a rehabilitative experience which leads to specific outcomes: facilitate acclimation and ease transition to civilian life improved attitude and increased optimism improved sleep patterns (and reduced dependence on sedatives) improved interpersonal relationships: spousal children friends increased ability to contribute to family and community equip veterans with unique ability to self-apply proven therapy improved employability and productivity broadened support network (fellow veterans, volunteers) tangible progress towards recovery reduced suicide rates reduced drug and alcohol abuse
