BREAKTHROUGH MIAMI IS AN EIGHT-YEAR, TUITION-FREE ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT AND MENTORING PROGRAM THAT SERVES MORE THAN 1,300 STUDENTS FROM UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES THE EDUCATIONAL TOOLS AND RELATIONSHIPS THEY NEED TO SUCCEED IN COLLEGE-PREP HIGH SCHOOLS, GRADUATE ON TIME AND ENROLL IN FOUR-YEAR COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. THE PROGRAM IS EQUALLY FOCUSED ON PROMOTING CAREERS IN EDUCATION FOR OUTSTANDING HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO TEACH, TUTOR AND MENTOR IN BREAKTHROUGH MIAMI'S SUMMER INSTITUTE AND SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM.ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2019:-FOR THE 2019 GRADUATING CLASS, 100% GRADUATED ON TIME FROM HIGH SCHOOL, AND 90% ENROLLED IN COLLEGE. 97% TOOK THE ACT OR SAT, AND 100% COMPLETED THE FAFSA. -AMONG STUDENTS IN 2018-19, 74% OF 11TH GRADERS TOOK TWO OR MORE ADVANCED CLASSES, 77% OF 10TH GRADERS HAD GPAS OF 3.0 OR HIGHER, 65% OF 9TH GRADERS TOOK GEOMETRY OR ALGEBRA II, AND 61% OF 8TH GRADERS TOOK ALGEBRA I OR GEOMETRY.DATA COLLECTED BY THE NATIONAL STUDENT CLEARINGHOUSE REVEALS BTM'S LONG-TERM IMPACT ON COLLEGE SUCCESS:-78% OF BTM SCHOLARS IMMEDIATELY ENROLL IN FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTIONS, COMPARED WITH 45% OF STUDENTS NATIONALLY. -86% OF BTM ALUMNI PERSIST TO THE SECOND YEAR OF COLLEGE, COMPARED WITH 74% OF COLLEGE STUDENTS NATIONWIDE, AND 52% OF PELL GRANT RECIPIENTS. -OUR SIX-YEAR GRADUATION RATE AT 65% IS ON PAR WITH NATIONAL AVERAGES FOR ALL STUDENTS, REGARDLESS OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC BACKGROUND.
