About

GREEN WORLD HEALTH NET (GWHN) HAD SEVERAL MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2014. SOME OF THESE ACCOMPLISHMENTS INVOLVED CONTINUED BENEFITS OF EXISTING PROJECTS WHILE OTHERS CENTERED ON SECURING FUNDING AND PLANNING FOR PROJECTS TO BEGIN IN 2015. UNDER OUR RECYCLE HEALTH NEW MEXICO PROGRAM, GWHN WAS ABLE TO RECOVER AND, THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH PROJECT C.U.R.E., DISTRIBUTE APPROXIMATELY SIX TONS OF UNUSED MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND FUNCTIONING MEDICAL EQUIPMENT. INSTEAD OF ENDING UP IN NEW MEXICO LANDFILLS THESE SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT- INCLUDING BASIC SUPPLIES SUCH AS GLOVES, GOWNS, NEEDLES, GAUZE AND EQUIPMENT SUCH AS X-RAY MACHINES, HOSPITAL BEDS, AND INCUBATORS- WENT TO HOSPITALS IN NEED IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD. THE ESTIMATED VALUE MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT RECOVERED IN 2014 WAS 1,508,676. GWHN WAS ALSO ABLE TO SECURE FUNDING TO CONDUCT PHASE 2 OF THE BOKO PROJECT STUDY AND SPENT THE LAST PART OF 2014 ORGANIZING THE PROJECT STUDY WHICH IS TO BEGIN IN GHANA IN MARCH OF 2015 AND END IN JANUARY OF 2016. THE PROJECT STUDY WILL BE CONDUCTED IN COLLABORATION WITH TULANE'S SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH, THE SWISS TROPICAL PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE AND THE NOGUCHI MEMORIAL INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL RESEARCH OF GHANA. THE GOAL OF THIS STUDY IS TO TEST WHETHER HAVING A FAN INSIDE A MOSQUITO NET INCREASES THE USE OF THE NETS, WHICH CURRENTLY HAVE USE RATES OF AROUND 50 PERCENT. AS MOSQUITO NETS ARE A PROVEN MALARIA PREVENTION TOOL, INCREASED USE RATES SHOULD RESULT IN LOWER MALARIA RATES.
