PROMOTING AND SUPPORTING THE NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES OF PENNSYLVANIA'S STATE PARKS AND FORESTS THROUGH LEADERSHIP IN RECREATION, EDUCATION, CONSERVATION AND VOLUNTEERISM. WE LAUNCHED TWO NEW FRIENDS GROUPS IN 2019, ONE IN MICHAUX STATE FOREST AND THE OTHER AT DAVIS HOLLOW CABIN, MORAINE STATE PARK. ONE FRIENDS GROUP, FRIENDS OF KEYSTONE, LEFT TO FORM A PARTNERSHIP WITH A DIFFERENT FISCAL AGENT. STARTED CONVERSATIONS ABOUT TWO OTHER GROUPS. SUPPORT THE FRIENDS WITH TRAININGS, MONTHLY UPDATES, LOCAL VISITS AND REGIONAL MEETINGS (FIVE OF THEM). HAD MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR VOLUNTEERISM IN 2019, BOTH THROUGH THE FRIENDS GROUPS AND WITH PPFF. HOSTED TWO VOLUNTEER DAYS WITH DELOITTE, BRINGING IN OVER 150 VOLUNTEERS. CONTINUE TO PAIR PROJECTS WITH PARTNERS WHILE UPDATING NEEDS LIST. SOME OF THE PROJECTS STARTED OR COMPLETED IN 2019 INCLUDE: ADA WALKWAY RESTORATION, LIGHT AT DOCK AND ADA SWINGS AT LACKAWANNA STATE PARK; ADA DOCK AT LITTLE BUFFALO STATE PARK; ADA PICNIC TABLES AT PYMATUNING; PURCHASED ELECTRIC BIKES FOR STAFF AT DELAWARE CANAL STATE PARK; PLACED INTERPRETIVE PANELS AT MCCONNELLS MILL STATE PARK; REMOVAL OF INVASIVE PLANTS AND PLANTING NATIVE PLANTS AT POINT STATE PARK; PLAYGROUND AT OIL CREEK STATE PARK; RESTORATION OF CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS ERA BUILDINGS AT LAUREL HILL STATE PARK AND LANDSCAPING AT FORBES STATE FOREST; RESTORATION OF CCC ERA CHIMNEY AT BUCHANAN STATE FOREST; DEVELOPED AND BUILT A SAFER ACCESS TO VIEWING WATERFALLS AT MCCONNELLS MILL STATE PARK; PURCHASED EQUIPMENT TO IMPROVE TRAIL WORK AT ELK STATE FOREST AND MOSHANNON STATE FOREST. HARRISBURG INSPIRING CONNECTIONS OUTDOORS AND NEWPORT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BOTH RECEIVED GRANTS TO TAKE CHILDREN AND YOUTH TO STATE PARKS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AND RECREATION LEARNING. WE AND OUR FRIENDS HAD OVER 200 EVENTS ATTRACTING OVER 82,000 VISITORS, SPOKE AT MORE THAN 125 EVENTS REACHING 2,000 PEOPLE AND HOSTED OVER 61,000 VOLUNTEER HOURS.
