- ACHIEVEMENT OF GOALS/OBJECTIVES: SHELTER, FOOD, CLOTHING, SUPERVISION AND A BASELINE MEDICAL HAS BEEN PROVIDED FOR 92 UNDUPLICATED ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN. VOLUNTEERS HAVE PROVIDED MORE THAN 1,500 VOLUNTEER HOURS FOR TUTORING, ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES, RECREATIONAL, MAINTENANCE PROJECTS, AND FUNDRAISING. - COLLABORATION: 92 CHILDREN REFERRED BY THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN PROTECTION SERVICES HAVE BEEN SERVED BY THE PROGRAM. - EVALUATION: THE PROGRAM WAS MONITORED BY THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES, THE CITY OF JACKSON, AND THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. CHRISTIANS IN ACTION EVALUATED THE PROGRAM BASED ON THE FOLLOWING DATA: 1 - THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CHILDREN SERVED WAS 92, WITH 60% BEING PART OF A SIBLING GROUP. THERE WERE 52 FEMALES AND 40 MALES; 63 BLACK, 28 WHITE, 1 OTHER.2 - THERE WERE 22 SEXUALLY ABUSED, 19 PHYSICALLY ABUSED, AND 51 NEGLECTED. THIRTEEN CASES OF ABUSE WERE ALCOHOL OR DRUG RELATED. THIRTY-FOUR CHILDREN WERE HANDICAPPED, PRESENTING WITH CLINICAL DEPRESSION, BIPOLAR DISORDER, SCHIZOPHRENIA, AND PERSONALITY DISORDER.3 - SIXTY CHILDREN WERE TRANSPORTED TO AREA SCHOOLS; THERE WERE 55 PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS AND 73 MEDICALS. THERAPEUTIC COUNSELING WAS PROVIDED THREE TIMES A WEEK, AT AGE APPROPRIATE LEVELS. 4 - INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS TRAINING WAS PROVIDED FOR 53 TEENS, AGES FOURTEEN AND OLDER, WHICH INCLUDED BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT, MONEY MANAGEMENT, ABSTINENCE, AND PERSONAL HYGIENE. DUE TO THE LARGE NUMBER ENTERING OUR PROGRAM THIS YEAR WHO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN SEX TRAFFICKING, WE HAVE ADDED THIS SUBJECT TO OUR TRAINING FOR TEENS.5 - THE NUMBER OF REFERRALS DECLINED WAS 20, DUE TO THE SHELTER BEING FILLED TO CAPACITY OR THE CHILD WAS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR SHELTER CARE.6 - TWENTY-THREE CHILDREN WERE RELEASED TO A HIGHER LEVEL OF CARE, 20 WERE PLACED WITH RELATIVES, 24 WERE PLACED IN A FOSTER HOME. NINE CHILDREN WERE REUNITED WITH PARENTS. SIXTEEN WERE PLACED IN GROUP HOMES AND NINE PLACEMENTS WERE UNIDENTIFIED. FIFTEEN CHILDREN RE-ENTERED THE SHELTER FOLLOWING A PREVIOUS DISCHARGE. 7 - FIFTY-ONE CHILDREN SERVED BY THE PROGRAM WERE FROM HINDS, MADISON AND RANKIN COUNTIES, AND 41 WERE FROM OUTSIDE THE 50 MILE RADIUS OF THEIR HOME. CHILDREN FROM TWENTY-FOUR MISSISSIPPI COUNTIES WERE SERVED DURING THE YEAR.THE SERVICES OF CHRISTIANS IN ACTION ASSISTED THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES IN MEETING THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES. - CHILDREN HAVE BEEN PROTECTED FROM FURTHER ABUSE AND NEGLECT; - CHILDREN HAVE BEEN SAFELY KEPT IN THEIR OWN HOMES; - FAMILIES HAVE ACHIEVED PERMANENCY; - THEIR EDUCATIONAL NEEDS HAVE BEEN MET; - PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS HAVE BEEN MET, AND - FAMILIES HAVE RECEIVED SKILLS WHICH HAVE ENABLED THEM TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR CHILDREN'S NEEDS.UNITS OF SERVICE DELIVERED:DEFINITION FOR A UNIT OF SERVICE: 1 CHILD SPENDING 1 NIGHT = 1 UNIT OF SERVICE. 2218 UNITS OF SERVICE WERE PROVIDED.SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS:A. THE PROJECT WAS AGAIN CHOSEN FOR THE MFUGE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM, AND IS ALSO NOW RECEIVING VOLUNTEER TUTORING SERVICES FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.B. THE AGENCY PARTNERED WITH JOYCE'S HOPE HOME FOR GIRLS FOR A UNITED WAY PROPOSAL.C. THE AGENCY WAS AWARDED A GRANT FROM HIS WAY, INC. FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW THERAPY ROOM.D. ADDITIONAL GRANT FUNDING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HAS PURCHASED A VEHICLE, FURNISHINGS, AND ENABLED THE AGENCY TO RE-ROOF THE SHELTER.E. THE NEW FAMILY SERVICES BUILDING IS NOW OPEN WHERE THE AGENCY CAN HOST FAMILY TEAM MEETINGS AND FAMILY VISITATION.
