Mission

The Volunteer Center of Greater Durham is a non-profit organization that enriches the Durham community and the lives of its residents through volunteerism. Our mission is to connect people of all ages with opportunities to serve, to provide community agencies with essential resources and training, and to coordinate programs that raise awareness of and impact local needs.

About

Non-profit resource collaborative - The Center works to strengthen and build the capacity of non-profit agencies in the community. By providing agencies essential resources, the Center helps these organizations maximize their resources and successfully fulfill their mission. Major services in this program area include: nonprofit training and workshops, capacity-building projects including an annual 5k run/walk-the Great Human Race- which has raised nearly 3 million for area nonprofits, the resource referral program (which matches in-kind donations with nonprofit needs), and special events such as the key volunteer of the year recognition event which allows nonprofits to acknowledge the contributions of their volunteers at a community wide event. Each year the volunteer center coordinates the governor's volunteer service award for both Durham and Orange counties that recognizes service to nonprofits. The Center worked with more than 1,100 nonprofit/service agencies last year.
