OPERATION OF 27,000 SQ. FT. MUSEUM, HERB GARDEN, NATURE TRAILS AND NUMEROUS POINTS OF OUTDOOR INTEREST, ON A 50-ACRE SITE OWNED BY WOOD COUNTY. NEW EVENTS/EXHIBITS: 1) THE FEATURED EXHIBIT, "RETURN TO NORMALCY: A LIFE OF LEISURE IN WOOD COUNTY, 1920-1939" RAN CONCURRENT WITH THE 2017 "OVER THERE SEND WORD: THE WOOD COUNTY BOYS ARE COMING WORLD WAR I, 1914-1918" WHICH EXPLORED WOOD COUNTY'S ROLE IN WWI. "LEISURE TIME" WAS INSPIRED BY WARREN G. HARDING'S 1920 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN PLATFORM "THE RETURN TO NORMALCY- AND SOWED FIRST-HAND EXAMPLES OF HOW THE LOCAL COMMUNITY ADAPTED TO LIFE AFTER WWI. . 2) THE CENTER COMPLETED A VARIETY OF CAPITAL PROJECTS INCLUDING ROOF REPAIRS TO MULTIPLE BUILDINGS, CEILING FAN INSTALLATION IN THE MEETING ROOM, NEW HANDRAILS, CEMETERY - FENCE REMOVED AND A NEW PAD WAS POURED FOR THE NEW MONUMENT THAT WILL BE DEDICATED NEXT YEAR. PAYMENTS ARE STILL BEING MADE ON THE ACCESSIBILITY LOAN. . 3) THE CENTER CONTINUED TO OFFER PUBLIC PROGRAMS INCLUDING A MONTHLY TEA SERIES, DEMONSTRATION DAYS, WOOD COUNTY LIVING HISTORY DAY, GERMAN-AMERICAN STORY SLAM COMMEMORATING THE END OF WWI AND OCTOBER FRIDAY NIGHT FOLKLORE TRICK, TREAT AND TOUR. IN DECEMBER THE HOLIDAY GALA WAS HOSTED WITH THE THEME "ROARING 20S." MORE THAN 9,000 PEOPLE WERE SERVED BY THE MUESUEM. OF THAT 5,891 PEOPLE VISITED THE MUSEUM INCLUDING GUESTS FROM DIFFERENT STATES AND COUNTRIES. IN ADDTION, 95 EDUCATIONAL AND TOURS PROGRAMS WERE CONDUCTED FOR BOTH ADULT GROUPS AND SCHOOL GROUPS. THE COMBINED TOURS AND PROGRAMS SERVED 3,537 STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND ADULTS. MORE THAN 300 VOLUNTEERS AND 103 COURT-APPOINTED AND SEARCH VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED TO ALL ASPECTS OF THE MUSEUM'S FUNCTIONS, DONATING OVER 3,200 HOURS OF SERVICE. VOLUNTEERS WERE UTILIZED AS FRONT DESK GREETERS AND DOCENTS/TOUR GUIDES IN ADDITION TO ASSISTANCE WITH NEWSLETTER MAILINGS, EDUCATIONAL AND PUBLIC SERVICE EVENTS AND PLANNING COMMITTEES.
