The Allentown Symphony Association’s mission is to provide a first-class symphony orchestra and hall, quality performing arts, and cultural education in partnership with the community.

ASA PRODUCED TEN CLASSICAL SERIES CONCERTS, FOUR POPS CONCERTS, AND FIVE YOUTH AND FAMILY CONCERTS. GUEST ARTISTS INCLUDED ANGELA MEADE, JOHN MATTHEW MYERS, AND THE WORLD-RENOWNED EROICA TRIO. THE MARCH 2018 CONCERT FEATURED THE WINNERS OF AN ASA COMPOSERS COMPETITION. ASO ALSO PERFORMED A FREE CONCERT AT LEVITT PAVILION STEEISTACKS. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE TWO ASO CONCERTS HELD OUTSIDE OF MILLER SYMPHONY HALL; 12 JAZZ UPSTAIRS PERFORMANCES; 13 MET IN HD BROADCASTS; AND THREE LIVE ONSTAGE PERFORMANCES. ASA EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS SERVED OVER 10,000 STUDENTS AND ADULTS. MASTERCLASSES WERE OFFERED TO ASPIRING MUSICIANS AND DANCERS, PROVIDING FACE-TO-FACE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING BY SKILLED PROFESSIONALS. THE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT PETTING ZOO, WHICH TRAVELED TO SCHOOLS, FESTIVALS, AND COMMUNITY EVENTS, OFFERED YOUNG CHILDREN THE OPPORTUNITY TO HOLD, HANDLE, AND MAKE SOUNDS ON INSTRUMENTS. SCHOOL-DAY ASO YOUTH CONCERTS OFFERED FREE AND STEEPLY DISCOUNTED TICKETS TO NEARLY 4,000 STUDENTS. EL SISTEMA LEHIGH VALLEY, THE ASA'S MAJOR SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVE, PROVIDED MORE THAN 520 HOURS OF DAILY AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING TO OVER 100 CHILDREN AT ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, SOUTH MOUNTAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND RAUB MIDDLE SCHOOL. THEY RECEIVED INSTRUCTION IN PLAYING STRING INSTRUMENTS AND SINGING, AS WELL AS ACADEMIC TUTORING. AS A GROUP, ESLV STUDENTS HAVE CONSISTENTLY EXCEEDED THE LEVEL OF SCHOOL AND STATE TEST SCORES IN READING AND MATH. IN THE 2017-2018 FISCAL YEAR, ASA PROVIDED 2,900 FREE TICKETS TO STUDENTS FOR ALLENTOWN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERTS, WHICH REPRESENTS A TOTAL VALUE OF OVER 32,000. IN ADDITION, ASA PROVIDED DISCOUNTED HALL RENTALS TO LOCAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. ASO IS ONE OF THE FEW ORCHESTRAS IN AMERICA TO OWN ITS OWN PERFORMANCE HALL, AND IS THE SMALLEST ORCHESTRA TO DO SO. DURING THE YEAR, THE ASSOCIATION RETIRED THE MORTGAGE ON MILLER SYMPHONY HALL THAT REMAINED FROM A MAJOR EXPANSION CAMPAIGN, WHICH TRANSFORMED THE 1899 THEATER INTO THE FIRST-CLASS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IT IS TODAY.
