Mission

Mission: RSVP improves the lives of vulnerable populations in the local community by focusing on education and wellness and by supporting nonprofits through skill-based volunteer programs. RSVP's programs, offered across Greater Philadelphia (Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia), directly impact the critical needs of vulnerable populations, including the health and wellness of children and food security. Programs also support the critical needs of disadvantaged pre-school children, at-risk youth, families, the elderly, veterans, those with low reading and STEM literacy skills and other nonprofit organizations through rewarding volunteer opportunities.

About

APPRISE is a program funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and coordinated in Montgomery County by RSVP to help Medicare beneficiaries understand their health care options and make the best decisions appropriate to their health and financial needs. APPRISE counselors are state trained RSVP volunteers who provide free assistance without bias. Counselors are available in person or by phone at 30 sites throughout Montgomery County to answer questions about prescription drug coverage, Medicare benefits, Medicare Advantage and supplemental plans, Medicare extra help, or appealing claims. Counselors and staff also make presentations to groups to answer broader more general questions as well as information on how to receive individualized consultations. Counselors also pro- actively help those with low incomes determine if they qualify for additional Medicare benefits through extra help. In 2018, 32 counselors spent 3,848 hours assisting over 4,000 seniors through individual counseling, at neighborhood and corporate presentations, and at local senior health fairs and expos.
