OUR METHOD, THE ORAL READING AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF LITERARY STORIES, CREATES A NEW, BROADER, FRAME OF REFERENCE FOR PARTICIPANTS. AT THE SAME TIME,THE PROGRAM IMPROVES READING COMPREHENSION, WRITING, COMMUNICATION, AND ANALYTICAL THINKING SKILLS. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES A SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT, ASSISTS IN THE QUESTIONING OF SELF-IMPOSED LIMITATIONS,ADVANCES THE ABILITY TO HEAR THE IDEAS OF OTHERS, AND ENCOURAGES PARTICIPANTS TO EXPAND THEIR HORIZONS. FUTHERMORE, IN OUR "CROSSING BORDERS WITH LITERATURE" PROGRAMS WE INVITE PEOPLE FROM A VARIETY OF PROFESSIONS TO JOIN THE PROGRAM WITH URBANITES. CROSS-CULTURAL CONVERSATIONS EVOLVE THAT BRIDGE DIFFERENCES OF ETHNICITY, GENDER, SOCIOECONOMIC CLASS, AGE AND GEOGRAPHY AND HELP OVERCOME BARRIERS TO SOCIAL JUSTICE.
