About

After five years of operation, the museum has achieved a record of accomplishment that reflects well on the community-owned institution: In its first year, Scottsdales Museum earned the prestigious designation of Smithsonian Affiliate, making it one of the youngest museums to ever receive this honor. For consecutive years since we opened, the Museum has been named Best Western Museum in the nation by True West magazine. The USA Today highlighted Scottsdales Museum as being one of 11 museums in our country for the quality of its exhibitions. In 2016, Scottsdales Museum was certified LEED Gold, by the U.S. Green Building Council, for design, construction and operation of an environmentally conscious building. In 2018, Scottsdales Museum became the downtown catalyst for economic development, first with the Canopy Hilton hotel on Marshall Way, then as the centerpiece for a $300-million Museum Square investment. In 2019, Scottsdales Museum was selected to host the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA) show, marking the return of this prestigious signature event to Scottsdale.Increasingly the Museum became a target destination for collectors and artists to display and sometimes donate their valuable western works of art, to date exceeding $20 Million in value!Trip Advisor has selected Scottsdales Museum as one of the top attractions in our community and state of Arizona and the Museums visitation includes greater than 50% of its guests being from out of the region and many from different countries. The distinguished Sunset Magazine recently designated Scottsdales Museum as the # 1 AMAZING Museum of all museums from Alaska to the Canadian border, stretched down into Mexico, and west of the Great Plains! While the Museum has had numerous major exhibitions celebrating the American West, nothing will compare to the Blockbuster Edward Curtis exhibit to open in the Fall of 2021, to be sponsored by the City of Scottsdale. Over five years, as word spread, the Museum saw growth in attendance, membership and its donor base. Enthusiasm grew among both citizens and tourists. Attendance and membership enabled the Museum to absorb all fixed costs associated with the Citys Museum.
