Mission

Grounded in Zen Buddhism, the mission of the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care is to transform the culture of care through contemplative practice, meeting illness, aging and death with wisdom and compassion. Inspired by the vision of co-founders, Sensei Robert Chodo Campbell and Sensei Koshin Paley Ellison, NYZCCC has proven itself a leader in developing a contemplative approach to care. Now entering its fourteenth year, NYZCCC dares to be brave and creative, becoming intimate with our own suffering in order to alleviate the suffering of others.

About

Provide a mode of compassionate care to the sick and terminally ill that creates a supportive, nurturing environment for people to consciously face their illness and/or end-of-life. This is done through hands-on direct care partnerships with two of New York's leading healthcare providers, caregiver and pastoral training programs, as well as actively advocating contemplative care at the national level. This is all in an effort to relieve individual suffering and create a more harmonious and compassionate world.
