Artistic performance: The mission of the Center for the Performing Arts is to engage and inspire the central Indiana community through enriching arts experiences. The Center was established in 2005 by the city of Carmel as a separate, nonprofit organization responsible for the operation and programming of the Indiana citys multidisciplinary performing arts campus. Each year, the Center presents the following event series: classical, jazz, country, songbook, pop/blues/folk, passport, holiday and family. The campus first welcomed the public in January 2011 with the opening of the Palladium, an acoustically superior 1,600-seat concert hall. Opening later that year were the 200-seat black box studio theater and the 500-seat proscenium theater, the Tarkington. Since the first tuning performances, the Center, its six resident companies and other local arts organizations using these facilities have presented more than 2,200 performances and distributed over 840,000 tickets to patrons from all 92 counties in Indiana, all 50 states, and 25 countries.
