About this organization
Mission
The Samburu Project (TSP) was founded on the promise of delivering access to clean water. Along the way, we discovered that water does so much more than we imagined. With clean water, families grow their own food, girls go to school and women empower themselves through small businesses. The Samburu are a pastoral, nomadic tribal community numbering over 300,000 people. Their land, 8,000 sq. miles, is remote, arid, beautiful and chronically drought-stricken. Living according to their tribal traditions, women and girls walk up to 12 miles a day attempting to procure water from any open, source. Simply stated, the lack of clean drinking water affects every aspect of life for the Samburu people and keeps them in a life of poverty.
